Rape Culture Essay

In the United States, assault has gotten one of the most underreported violations every year (Å"Reporting Rape 1). The term assault culture alludes to how our general public has shown ladies how not to be assaulted as opposed to showing men not to assault. Through jokes and the sexualization of ladies we are bound to accept assault is certainly not a major emergency in our country. Assault culture prompts the acknowledgment of assault as a characteristic event through pictures that generalize ladies, media, and the criticism of assault casualties. In our way of life we are made to accept that casualties ought to be accused for their own maltreatment as per their perspective or what they were wearing at that point. Assault culture has become such a significant piece of own lives that we dont know its in any event, occurring. In todays society, ladies have become such a Å"sex object from the media, motion pictures, and ad, or even jokes. Through pictures that dehumanize ladies, they transform them into objects, prompting the expansion of viciousness towards ladies. In a Stop Violence Against Women occasion understudies face the issue face on and stated: When the media generalizes ladies, it likewise makes a closely resembling meaning of manliness. She included that the media forces these cultural jobs, making individuals overlook complex human characters and personalities (Turmam 1). The over-sexualization of ladies in todays media gives ladies an inappropriate expectations. At one-point ladies consider sex to be a need to be in todays Å"norms yet not to put themselves out enough to be explicitly attacked. The word Å"slut has abused ladies by advising them to dress a specific way, where to go or not go, who to converse with and who not to converse with. Å"Slut disgracing is a demonstration of disgracing an individual dependent on the amount they display their sexuality. Trifling with the word too can have horrendous results on how assault will be defended. Ladies who show an excessive amount of skin or dress provocative are marked as Å"sluts and are tormented just as taken a gander at with less regard. Ladies ought to have the option to wear whatever decision of garments they need, go out where they need and not be in steady dread of assault. We are living in a culture where survivors are hesitant to make some noise (Kacmarek 2). Most ladies are worried about the possibility that that by making some noise they are putting themselves out to be judged. Individuals around us judge an individual who has been assaulted not on the circumstances however by the kind of attire they were w earing, saying that they have Å"lost their self-respect which implies they may have brought it upon themselves. Examination has discovered that an expansion in chauvinist jokes can have a negative result for assault casualties (Viki 1). By making a general public that looks down on the individuals who show their sexuality, it makes dread when ladies are explicitly ambushed. This likewise causes men to accept that it is Å"okay to go onto ladies. No one however the attacker ought to be accused for the maltreatment that occurred. Nobody ever requests to get assaulted, in any circumstance. Jessica Valenti goes up against the issue of Å"no implies no : Until American culture and law outlines sexual assent, as proactively, excitedly given, there will be no equity for assault casualties. Its time for the U.S to lose the Å"no implies no model for understanding rape and concentrate Å"only yes implies yes rather (Broderick 3) America has seen assent is such a free way. Many overlook that Å" no doesn't mean Å"convince me. A review uncovers that numerous individuals between the ages of 14-25 don't really find out about assent in compulsory sex-instruction classes (Broderick 2). An assent sex doesn't mean there wasnt a no, but instead that the yes was not constrained upon by persuading or antagonistic circumstance where they have a feeling that they were compelled to state yes. Additionally that being when individuals are impaired or even oblivious, on the grounds that they didnt state no doesn't imply that it gives the appropriate for an individual to have intercourse with him. Two individuals consenting is a need with regards to sex. Numerous individuals don't know about how startling the measurements including rape is. The wrongdoing of assault is at an alarmingly high rate because of the way that Å"slut -disgracing and casualty disgracing, many are reluctant to shout out about assault. Consistently there is 237,868 individuals explicitly ambushed (Å"Statistics 1) Only 40% of assaults really answered to the police (Å"Reporting Rates 1) That implies that 60% are too reluctant to even think about reporting a rape and numerous attacker escaping for what they have done and potentially doing it once more. Out of the 40% of assaults that are really revealed 3% of attacker will ever go through a day in jail (Å"Reporting Rates 1). There is no equity for ladies in the United States who are being assaulted. Angie Epifano states how assault is some way or another need to more Å"legitimate contrasted with different violations: If you were robbed in New York City individuals would be shocked. Nobody will stay there and state ËœAre you sure you were robbed? With rape there is consistently this inquiry of ËœAre you sure? ËœWhat were you wearing?(Kacmarek 2) Men assault consistently on the grounds that they realize they can pull off it. Our way of life has gotten so associated with slamming others on the most proficient method to dress or acceptable behavior we have overlooked that it isn't the casualties issue, yet that individuals assault since they are attackers. Something else that the vast majority overlook is that assaults don't occur by arbitrary outsiders. Most assaults occur by the individuals we know, companions or family. We are worried about the possibility that that to confront the way that the assault isn't just dedicated by insidious maniacs however rather by the individuals who we turn upward to or the individuals who weve became more acquainted with the best (Broderick 1). About â… of assaults are submitted by somebody the casualty knows (Å"Statistics 1). Some of best models how assault culture has produced such gigantic results in the United States is in the media. Attackers are made to look like casualties in todays society. A culture where its accepted that Å"boys will be boys, where men can't control themselves in the event that they see ladies in uncovering garments. In the media, assault culture has influenced the manner in which assault cases are taken a gander at. The predisposition conclusions in transit news inclusion takes a gander at the assaults have been negatively affecting the watchers. A prime case of this is found in the assault case in Steubenville, Ohio. The preliminary was against two youngsters, Trent Mays and Malik Richmond, both in secondary school. These two young men assaulted an oblivious young lady who was profoundly inebriated. They alluded to this youthful multi year old as the Å"dead girl, yet in preliminary denied realizing that they were assaulting her since it Å"wasnt violent (Plank 1). An indivi dual who is oblivious can't assent any sort of infiltration. Because there isnt a no, doesn't imply that implies that is the thing that the young lady needs. Quietness isn't assent. Assault is generally not rough or constrained. The two young men kept on peeing on her, live-text, and dispersed stripped photos of the person in question (Plank 1). During this many looked as the young lady was being assaulted, most giggled and accepting pictures as this was going on. This assault preliminary is being excused in light of the fact that she was not saying Å"no during this. Assault statement of regret in the media was plainly demonstrated when CNN, secured and reacted the assault preliminary. At long last a preliminary where the attackers were sent to prison the manner in which the journalist excused the assault and rather exploited the attacker. Poppy Harlow proceeded to examine on how profoundly sorry she was for this attacker: Ive never experienced anything like it Candy. It was fantastically troublesome in any event, for a pariah like me to look as these two youngsters that had a lot of promising future, star football players, generally excellent understudies truly watch as they accepted their lives self-destructed (Plank 1). Here she causes the attacker to appear as though a casualty when he was the one that settled on the choice to assault and hurt another individual. Indeed, even one of the most pleasant folks can assault. Nobody yet the attacker ought to be accused for viciousness they caused on the others. Regardless of what the young lady was wearing or how her perspective was, nobody however the attacker ought to be accused. Å"As long as we freely feel for attacker, we are commending them. Attacker merit no expression of remorse, assault casualties do (Plank 2) Subsequently, there is indisputable proof that assault culture is predominant in the United States. Our way of life has desensitized and limited awful encounters for its casualties. Ladies are being dehumanized due to they are typified and over-sexualized. Casualty accusing has become such a standard in our general public we overlook that nobody yet an attacker ought to be accused for what they have done. Statics show how there isn't equity for ladies, when men are not being taken care of for their wrongdoing. Socially people are taking predisposition sides as a result of misogynist ways that the casualty is some way or another liable for being assaulted.

Sedalia Engine Plant Case Study Review

We have assessed your case at Sedalia Engine Plant and accept we have discovered an arrangement that meets your requirements. We accept that while your organization without a doubt holds a ton of guarantee, we have a couple of thoughts to we might want to prescribe to you and maybe mull over. We have your eventual benefits nearby and just serve in helping you in bettering your organization and getting progressively effective. By the methods for what is known as lean creation, you can keep on protecting the incentive in your item while expanding effectiveness in the creation procedure, making your representatives more joyful bringing about greater efficiency and quality control, and planning to spare your organization time and cash over the long haul while not costing your workers, items or buyers anything, which are all beneficial things. You express that representatives are beginning to feel weak and feel like they can't do undertakings that would profit the organization. While you have executed a program to address this, you demonstrate it isn't working. One significant guideline of lean creation is leveling out the outstanding task at hand. We suggest spreading the remaining burden among all workers. In the event that the outstanding task at hand is level no matter how you look at it, workers will feel valuable and not feel just as they have squandered endeavors. Having an inclination that a piece of a group and feeling equivalent among your work peers makes for more prominent solidarity and an expanded possibility for more prominent work quality, bringing about item quality. Including normalized errands is likewise the establishment for nonstop improvement and representative strengthening. Representatives themselves ought to be energetic about the organization and work together for one objective. These individuals ought to be in concurrence with your companies’ theory. Those you choose to be group pioneers or administrators ought to be prepared for the position. They ought to completely see each part of the organization and furthermore be prepared in being group pioneers, while simultaneously understanding the showing techniques for the organization. Building solid pioneers to help lead and keep groups cooperating is fundamental for the prosperity of your organization. As referenced earlier, giving every representative a considerable measure of the work will help with their spirit, and furnishing solid pioneers outfitted with great initiative aptitudes to coordinate their equivalent endeavors makes for an exceptional framework. Concerning the Board of Representatives, Board of Employees, and Human Resources, these groups should work pair to be successful. These three groups ought to settle on choices together, and quickly executing the consistent choice. These choices should concentrate on the drawn out picture, not the transient picture, regardless of whether penances should be made. The Board of Representatives ought to continually be viewing with their own eyes to guarantee creation is being completed in a legitimate way. The Board of Employees ought to be worried about making representative errands normalized, and work to persistently improve the degree of normalization. With normalized errands and work equally spread across representatives, workers will feel engaged to succeed. To abstain from sitting around idly and assets, the attention ought to be on building quality first, as opposed to stressing over fixing issues later. Your organization should just utilize dependable, completely tried innovation that serves your kin and procedures. You ought to likewise give visual controls so no issues are covered up. Keep in mind, quality is â€Å"key†. Concerning the issue relating to wage differentials and employer stability, a great method of approaching dealing with that is to bargain with the laborers. Additionally on the off chance that you utilize the means for looking for integrative arrangements, that would help also. The initial step is isolated the individuals from the issue. I realize that wages and professional stability straightforwardly influence the workers, yet it is ideal in the event that you remove the representatives from the issue and truly discover the organization issues with contrasting wages. The subsequent advance is center around the mutual enthusiasm of the considerable number of gatherings. With respect to the plant, you would normally need to do what is to the greatest advantage of the organization, however on the off chance that you are truly attempting to determine and bargain the issue you would need to take a gander at the issue from a worker perspective. The subsequent stage, and probably the greatest one, is to produce alternatives. It regards not simply think of one answer for the employer stability issue, however to likewise figure numerous alternatives that can be utilized to take care of that issue. I propose format an arrangement that representatives were to follow and in the event that they didn’t, that would put their wages and employer stability in danger. The fourth step in the breakdown would be assessment. It is ideal to assess the choices utilizing target models. This progression just intends to altogether investigate choices and have a specific rules to follow for the alternatives to be of any pertinence to the issue. The last advance would be to cycle. There is definitely not an, onetime, ideal choice for each issue. The most ideal approach to this is to continue attempting. In the event that one arrangement doesn’t completely settle the compensation issues at the plant, than continue attempting different plans. It was referenced that POT is as yet working, yet an Organizational Review Group (ORG) was built up to talk about plant rules alongside Exempt and Non-absolved Task Force Groups (NEIG and EITG). In light of worker analysis and the potential for negative exposure, the leading body of trustees settled on a choice to set up a â€Å"Task Force on the Work/Family Interface. The strategic the Task Force was to make suggestions on potential increases and alterations to organization strategies and projects that will better suit the family obligations of its representatives. Individuals from this Task Force included: organization officials, absolved and non-excluded representatives, and individuals from the leading group of trustees. The Task Force can make suggestions in countless regions including medical coverage inclusion, nonappearance with pay, leave without pay, debilitated leave, advancement measures and approaches, preparing programs, family leave, work sharing, strategic scheduling and kid care. I accept teams are an enhancement for past practices, yet I additionally accept there could be another alternative also Your dynamic procedures ought to be founded on a drawn out way of thinking of demonstrating great administrations and items, even to the detriment of transient money related objectives. While benefit is significant and basic, a high one amounts to nothing if your workers aren’t upbeat, bringing about your items not having as much quality, bringing about unsatisfied clients. This rips everybody off at long last. High assurance and hard working attitude is center, as recently expressed. Bringing back structure a way of thinking inside the psyches and hard working attitude of group pioneers and representatives, it streams down into the item itself and consoles that your organization represents something incredible and honorable, not just another huge name raking in some serious cash. It is most likely significant for you to hold a high assurance and strong notoriety, and with these key goals and frameworks, that is a lot of conceivable. We thank you for your time and expectation you to bring our proposals into profound thought. We feel these choices would be astute for the enduring future and nature of your items, individuals and capability.

It’s the natural science that is perhaps the most relevant to the everyday world around us, but it is also one of the hardest to understand. So getting a good explanation for a physics principle can go a long way. Textbooks can do a good job of explaining physics. But having physics explained to you 1-on-1 by someone who understands it just adds that extra dimension to your learning. It puts the human element in it, something which is very lacking in the typical physics textbooks, and often in classroom instruction too. You can spend hours looking up the explanation behind a physics principle and still come up short. Alternatively, you can get someone to explain it to you and save you a lot of time. When it comes to physics, brevity is key, and sometimes the best way to get the direct answer is by talking to an expert on the subject. You get the explanation, and if that leads to other questions you just ask them right away. This is unlike a textbook which gives you the explanation, and if thats not good enough you have to look elsewhere. The classroom setting is not that much different. The instructor cannot just stop and address individual questions, or at least not do that very much. The instructor must deliver the material in a certain time frame, and then leave it up to you to catch up later on. But with 1-on-1 tutoring you can stop and reflect on the subject matter being explained to you. It can more closely follow your learning curve than either a textbook or an instructor can, because it is a dynamic process which adapts to your learning progress. The optimal situation is where you have learned the background material as best as you can, from the textbook and instructor, and then the holes in your knowledge can be filled with a private tutoring session. â€Å"Myths are stories that express meaning, morality or motivation. Whether they are true or not is irrelevant.† This was quoted by writer Michael Shermer, and it still holds today. This quote displays that myths have the power to take the reader away from reality and launch them into a world of mystery and phenomena. Also, even if myths have different stories and different characters, they all in some way portray regular societal values. For example, â€Å"The Fisherman and The Jinnee†, â€Å"Sifrit†, and â€Å"Song of Roland† all tell divergent stories with very diverse characters. But by the end, they all portray the values of righteousness and how one man, or hero can rescue an entire society. â€Å"A myth is an image of terms in which we try to make†¦show more content†¦They eventually race in the woods to get drinks and when it is not suspicious, Hagen stabs Sifrit in the weak spot with a lance. As the warrior he is, he fights the battle rather than calling in reinforcements. However, this lead to the tragic death of his comrade Olivier, and most of his soldiers. Towards the end, he blew the oil paint which hollered for help to aid the rest of his people. This decision lead to his death, which makes him a martyr. Roland is similar to the myths of Sundiata and Fisherman and the Jinnee because of their actions and decision making made them heroes in their respective myths. Each of these myths have a hero either protecting their loved ones, or saving their loved ones from danger. In Sundiata, the griot is illustrated as brave, due to his willingness to slay enemies left and right, while disregarding his own safety in battle, much like Rollanz. However, in the Fisherman and the Jinnee, the main fisherman does not use violence but instead he uses his genius intellect to take himself out of tough situations. Affirmative Action and College Admissions A Legal and...

Affirmative Action and College Admissions: A Legal and Ethical Analysis I. Introduction The institution of public education has been one of the most controversial establishments in the United States since its inception. More specifically, equality in the conditions and the opportunities it provides has been sought as one of its major goals. There is little doubt that minority ethnic groups have struggled to achieve educational equality, just as they have struggled for equality in other aspects of life. One way that minorities have tried to achieve equality in education is through lobbying for help in college admissions for their respective groups. This social practice has been debated on many grounds, including necessity and†¦show more content†¦Proponents of affirmative action believe that it is a necessary step toward racial equality. Opponents argue on the basis of â€Å"reverse racism,† which claims that affirmative action keeps certain members of the majority ethnic group out of jobs or other positions that they deserve solely because of quota s that must be filled. The positive effects of affirmative action are the basis behind the arguments of those who support considering ethnicity and race as a part of admissions. All of the basic principles of these contentions have spilled over into the avenue of admission standards in institutions of higher learning. The main question surrounding this issue, and the focus of this paper, is: Should college admissions consider ethnic background as a factor when admitting students? Both the supporters of separate admission standards and their opponents have strong arguments derived from many years of past struggles. The following is an analysis of the legal background surrounding the issue, as well as an investigation of the arguments of both sides of this issue. II. The Legality of Affirmative Action in College Admissions Although the issue of racial considerations in college admissions has evolved into very much an ethical debate, there have been many legal actions taken. Elementary Classroom Observation Essay Sample free essay sample

I am carry oning my service acquisition hours at Palm Springs North Elementary School. which teaches classs between pre-kindergarten and 5th class. This school is located in Palm Springs North. Florida. This simple school has a entire registration of 966 pupils most life within the Palm Springs North and Miami Lakes country. The pupil demographic consist of 87 % Hispanic. 7 % White. 5 % Black. 1 % Asiatic and 0 % other. Presently the school has one principal. three vice-principals and about 65 full clip instructors. It has a pupil to teacher ratio of about 15 pupils per instructor. The mean student-teacher ratio for Miami-Dade County is 16 to 1. I am detecting the schoolroom of Mrs. Yessenia Prieto. She teaches 3rd class linguistic communication humanistic disciplines. Mrs. Prieto earned her grade in Education for classs K-5. She has merely taught elementary and has been a instructor now for near to 10 old ages. Her mean category size is about 30 pupils. 60 % of her pupils are male c hilds and 40 % are girls. There is a little group of Esol pupils in her category which need to be taught in the Spanish linguistic communication. Even though most of the schools demographics is Latino during my observations hours I have noticed that there are many subcultures within the pupil organic structure. A subculture is described as a societal group with shared features that distinguish It in some manner from the larger group in which it is embedded ( Cushner. McClelland. and Safford ; 2007 ) . The set up of this schoolroom is different from the traditional schoolroom. It is located on the 2nd floor of the chief edifice. It is a big unfastened infinite which is separated by splitters which shape the different schoolrooms. The pupils have little person desk which are grouped in fives. The instructors desk is located in the dorsum of the schoolroom and surprisingly it does non hold a computing machine. There is a level panel telecasting on the wall which is turned on in the forenoon to give the forenoon school intelligence and sing the national anthem. At times this telecasting is besides used for presentations or exercis ings which cater to all larning types. except for kinaesthetic scholars which require a more â€Å"hands-on† attack. On a day-to-day footing Mrs. Prieto writes the day-to-day assignment on the board that the pupils need to work on. They are asked to take out their diary which is normally either a reading or composing diary. The pupils are so asked to make three short assignments. At this clip of the twelvemonth they are fixing for FCAT proving so most assignments given are for reading. They read a short narrative and reply a few inquiries sing the reading. Once the clip is up the instructor reads the narrative out loud together with the pupils. She so hands out ruddy pens and have them look into their ain replies. I observed the pupils get excited to reply the inquiries. Sharing their replies with one another and working in groups encourages the pupils to link and happen commonalties amongst each other. The little size of this schoolroom allows Mrs. Prieto to be truly originative and supply personalized attending which becomes specifically helpful for certain pupils who need it. I realized that in a little schoolroom versus a larger one pupils prosecute more with the instructor and the schoolroom is much easier to pull off. I believe this to finally be more of a benefit to the pupil than it is to the instructor. Besides. Mrs. Prieto needs to give some of her category clip to her E. S. E. pupils. which frequently need more attending and clip to complete assignments. The pupils who require the most attending from the instructor are the non English speech production pupils. The group is composed of about 7 pupils all of Hispanic decent. Mrs Prieto is a Spanish speech production instructor so she is able to pass on efficaciously with this little group of pupils. I observed that this allows for the pupils to experience like they belong with the remainder of the schoolroom despite the fact they do non talk the same linguistic communication as most of the other pupils. When they are immersed in an intercultural state of affairs. this sense of belonging may be hard to accomplish because they do non cognize the regulations of behaviour in the new state of affairs ( Cushner. McClelland. and Safford ; 2007 ) . Although they are non able to understand the way of the regular category they get particular clip and way for their assignments. To make this inclusive environment the instructor must be after in front and equilibrate the different acquisition manne rs to learn the same stuff to all the pupils in the category. What I found the most interesting is an assignment that the pupils work on for about 30 min several times a hebdomad. These assignments are reading and composing assignments which prepare the pupils for FCAT proving. The instructor hands out the packages to each of the pupils. They work on the same package each clip. The pupils are alloted times to read the transitions and answer inquiries. They check their ain replies and take clip take parting in the different activities. The package is utilized in the instance a pupil does non go through the FCAT. If the pupil performed good in the package exercises but failed the FCAT the package would let the pupil to have a passing position. The dedication I observed Mrs. Prieto have with the pupils. doing certain they do good in these assignments was to be admired. It is really obvious that it is non an easy undertaking at manus but what is apparent is the wages it produces.

Compare Contrast Religion Essays - Prophets Of Islam, Messianism

Compare Contrast Religion ************************************************************************** ***** Joe Stas [emailprotected] This was an A essay! ************************************************************************** ***** Compare and Contrast essay: Christianity, Islam, and Judaism Introduction of Religions Christianity most widely distributed of the world religions, having substantial representation in all the populated continents of the globe. Its total membership may exceed 1.7 billion people. Islam, a major world religion, founded in Arabia and based on the teachings of Muhammad, who is called the Prophet. One who practices Islam is a Muslim. Muslims follow the Koran, the written revelation brought by Muhammad. The Muslim world population is estimated at more than 1 billion. Islam is the quickest growing religion. Judaism is one of the world's oldest religious traditions. Pre-modern Judaism constituted (and traditional Judaism today constitutes) an integrated cultural system of Jewish law, custom, and practice encompassing the totality of individual and communal existence. It is a system of sanctification in which all is to be subsumed under God's rule. Judaism originated in the Middle East, but Jewish communities have existed at one time or another in almost all parts of the world, a result of both voluntary migrations and forced exile or expulsions. Origin The central element of Christianity is the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus of Nazareth, a Jewish rabbi, attracted a following of people who believed him to be a new prophet. Their recollections of Jesus' words and deeds recall his days on earth and the miracle of his resurrection from the dead on the first Easter. These Jewish Christians began the first churches, in Jerusalem. Much like Christianity Islam was based on the prophesies and teaching of person or prophet, Muhammad. In Mohammed's time (570?-632), the Arabian Peninsula was inhabited by nomadic Bedouins and city-dwelling Arabs. Muhammad began his ministry at the age of 40, when, he claimed, the archangel Gabriel appeared to him in a vision. At first Muhammad confided his visions only to his family and close friends. After four years he began to preach openly in his native city of Mecca. Ridiculed by the Meccans, he went to Medina in 622. At his death in 632, Muhammad was the leader of an Arab state growing rapidly in power. The third duty of a Muslim is to pay zakat. This tax was originally levied by Muhammad ,and later by Muslim states, on the wealthy members of the community, primarily to help the poor. The fourth duty is the fast of the month of Ramadan. During the fasting month, one must refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and sexual intercourse from dawn until sunset. The fifth duty is the pilgrimage to Mecca. Every adult Muslim who is physically and economically able to do so must make this pilgrimage at least once in his or her lifetime. Unlike the other two major religions Judaism evolved form the Israelites who didn't deny the existence of other gods for other nations, though they only worshipped one deity. Its deity was Yahweh, the god of the patriarchs, who was worshipped in a sacrificial cult centered in Jerusalem and later at sanctuaries in the north, where a rival Jewish kingdom was formed. Prophets who warned against the people's reliance on these temple cults saw themselves vindicated when both the northern and southern kingdoms were destroyed by foreign conquerors. The exile of the Judeans to Babylonia in 586 BC was a major turning point in Israelite religion. The prior history of Israel now was reinterpreted in light of the events of 586, laying the foundation for the traditional biblical Pentateuch, prophetic canon, and historical books. A truly monotheistic religion, called Judaism, developed from these events. In 539 BC the Jews were permitted to return to Israel. Doctrines and Practices In Christian teaching, Jesus is the supreme preacher and exemplar of the moral life, but for most Christians that does not fully justify significance of his life and work. Christians teach that God is almighty in dominion over all that is in heaven and on earth, righteous judgment over good and evil. Baptism is the means of initiation into Christianity. Another fundamental component of the Christian faith and practice is its community. The community of faith in the church is the primary setting for Christian worship, although Christians of all traditions have placed a strong emphasis on private devotion and individual prayer. Unlike Christianity Islam has two fundamental sources of doctrine and practice, which are the Koran and the Sunna. Muslims regard the Koran as the speech of God to Muhammad and they believe that God himself is the author. The Sunna is known through Hadith, the body of traditions based on the words and actions of the Prophet. Unlike the Koran, Hadith is not considered infallible. The Islamic culture also believes that there are fundamental things for all Muslims to do so they go to heaven. According

The God Father

The God Father The God Father I do appreciate many genres of movies ranging from horror, thriller, drama, apocalyptic, investigative, and others. Not at any one time, has gangster films captured my attention. It was not until I watched movies such as Good Fellas and Sopranos which I found enthralling that interest developed. Since then, my yearning for gangster films increased like that of fish to water. Recently, my friend learnt of my love for classical gangster movies which was nurturing and she recommended that I watch The God Father. My colleague rated the film as high of all times which I may not agree but will assert that it is undeniably a brilliant piece of work. After watching the movie, I baptized it The Sicilian Best. The God Father is arguably the best gangster movie ever perhaps owing to Francis Ford Coppola brilliant directing. Coppola defied the norm of capturing mafia life as a moral and social blight whose ill effects still dictates American society but rather illuminated it simply through a family saga. In his works, Coppola made use of dialogue and vivid performances by film icons to produce a bravura piece of work. Set in a post- war America era, The God Father is a modern gangster film which vividly brings out the mafia lifestyle. A fictitious clan by the name Corleone has Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brandon) Sitting at its helm. The story though revolves around Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) who as the name suggests, is Don Vitos youngest son. Michael Corlene is not only unblemished but also tragically gifted at running the family business. Vito Corleone the head of the powerful mafia family earns the name Godfather from his accolades. This reminds me of Mr. Untouchable where the much famed drug baron Nicky Burns earns the name from his foes. Michael who has earned respect as a World War 11 hero does no involve himself in family business. Unfortunately, Don Vito is gunned down by his rivals but escapes death by a whisker. Sonny (James Caan) assumes the responsibility once shouldered by his father of running the family business. However, he does not succeed due to his soft nature. This, in turn, f orces Michael to step up and protect the father he seemingly loved. This role takes Michael to a powerful world of violence his father used to tread in and never wanted any of his sons in it. This marks Michaels entry into the world of organized crime. Coppola in this film brings out a level of empathy to gangster life. He strives to construct a human level of those in organized crime. I should say he achieves to some extent through the use of family and loyalty themes. Some taboo elements are also addressed through a relationship seen between Sonnys illegitimate son Vincent and Michaels daughter Mary. In the movie, the Catholic Church association with the mobsters is also questioned. We can argue that besides exposing gangster life, Godfather addresses other moral issues. Coppola, in directing the movie in which he nearly got shot, manages to capture the glittering triumphs of movie alchemy. He combined both the old Hollywood directing techniques with the new ones which saw the success of the movie. God Fathers did more harm than good to many. Despite presenting a new world in which immorality goes unpunished, it jump started the careers of characters like Al Pacino and Robert Duvall who were to be Hollywood icons. It also salvaged Brandons image, which was waning. It is also paramount to mention that movies like Sopranos and HBO drew a lot from God Father. From the plain lands of Africa, the ever busy workforce of Asia, to the cold climate of Europe, I would recommend The God Father to every lover of films.

Wireless Network Active Attacks Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Wireless Network Active Attacks - Essay Example The best solution to this problem is RF proofing the nearby atmosphere. The use of Wireless technologies is increasing rapidly and Wireless technology is much admired. So companies are exchanging their usual wired networks with wireless - even for non-mobile functions. There have been several warnings from security advisors regarding wireless protocols, Especially for WEP, being disgustingly insecure. Unauthorized access to wireless network can occur from different ways for example, when a user turns on a computer and it latches on to a wireless admittance point from a neighboring company’s overlapping network, the user may not even know that this has occurred. But, it is a security violate in that proprietary company information is exposed and now there could exist a link from one company to the other. A denial-of-service attack is an effort to make computer resources unavailable to its intended users. It is the malicious efforts of a persons or number of persons to stop a web site or service from carrying out proficiently or at all. One general way of attack involves saturating the target machine with external communications requests, such that it cannot react to legitimate traffic, or responds so slowly as to be rendered effectively unavailable. It normally slows down the network performance. For example speed of opening files and closing files slow down. System will also be unable to access any web site. The bandwidth of a router linking the Internet and a local area network may be consumed by DoS. There are also other types of attack that may include a denial of service as a module, but the denial of service may be a part of a larger attack. Illegal utilization of resources may also result in denial of service. For instance, an interloper can use someone’s secret ftp ar ea as a place to store illegal copies of commercial software, overwhelming disk space and generating network

I assisted them in the form of groups and visited the place thrice a week i.e. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. My tenure ended on April 10, 2014. The only difficulty which I had to face was communicating with the people as two of the group members had listening problem. It is true that elderly people are like new babies who require a lot of attention and care. I allocated sufficient time and efforts during the whole volunteer period so that I could provide them a marvelous experience of their life. There were about six people in my group and I had to make sure that I address the demands of each person appropriately. One person spoke at such a low volume that I had to listen to her talk with complete attention. I even made sure that I gave time to each individual so that they could share their feelings and thoughts effectively. I even asked them open ended questions to have clarity about their requests so that their queries were resolved. I even did physiotherapy of a person on his request as his legs were hurting and I asked him to guide me so that I could perform the exercise effectively. I definitely feel that the helping skills have to be used according to the situation and they should be in alignment with the instance so that the desired results are attained. I believe that my clients were contended with my behavior and they appreciated my efforts. One of the clients even mentioned that she feels relaxed after talking to me. Also, other person was satisfied with my helping actions as he stated that I have the ability of proactively responding to other individual’s requests efficiently. Evolution Of Human Resource Management Functions

Evolution Of Human Resource Management Functions During the early stages of the industrial revolution, employees who worked in factories had to undergo extremely harsh conditions where they were underpaid and had to work for long hours under very poor conditions of hygiene. These conditions outraged the employees who worked in such factories and they initiated labor riots. As a result of these riots the government intervened to provide basic protection for labors or employees of such factories. This was done through the introduction of statutory regulations and all factory owners were required to comply with these statutory regulations. As a result the factory owners were forced to set up a department to look into employee wages, employee welfare and to address other issues concerning labor. This led to the development of Personnel Management. The evolution of Human Resource Management could be said to have started with the industrial revolution when factories had established personnel departments to look in to wages and welfare of employees. It could be said that the Personnel Management approach gave way to the Human Resource Approach. Personnel Administration: Personnel Administration concerns day to day activities and existing problems of employees. Personnel Administration could be identified as a reactive tool. Scientific Management: Scientific Management suggests there is a specific or a best way of doing things. In Scientific Management human beings were considered as machines, their feelings and attitudes were disregarded. The main aim of Scientific Management was only to maximize the productivity of the organization. Human Relations Movement: Human Relations Movement always anticipated the future unexpected occurrences before considering the current issues and believed in synergy. Government Regulations: Government Regulations were put into place so that all employees would at least get basic protection from basic forms of unfair treatment. There are mainly four acts which were put into place for this purpose. Equal Pay Act (1970) This act prohibits and less favorable treatment between men and women in terms of pay and conditions of employment. Here, the term pay is interpreted in a broad term and covers areas such as holidays, pension rights and company bonuses. Sex Discrimination Act or Gender Discrimination Act (1975) This act exists to protect men and women from discrimination on the grounds of sex. The Sex Discrimination act is mainly in relation to employment, training, education, harassment, provision of goods and services and in the disposal of premises. Race Relations Act (1976) This act exists to prevent discrimination on the grounds of race. The act also covers discrimination on the grounds of color, nationality, ethnicity, provision of goods and services, education and public functions. This act also established the Commission for Racial Equality. Disability Discrimination Act (1995) This act makes it unlawful to discriminate against people in respect of their disabilities in relation to employment, the provision of goods and services, education and transport. Human Resource Movement: With the Human Resource Movement greater attention was given towards social responsibility and social well being. There was more emphasis give to the relationship between employers and employees. Employee ideas and initiatives were encouraged. Strategic Human Resource Management: In Strategic Human Resource the importance of human resource considerations in long range strategic planning has been recognized. Many organizations line managers now carry out activities, which were traditionally within the remit of HR such as providing coaching and guidance, undertaking performance appraisals and dealing with discipline and grievances. In many cases, they also carry out recruitment and selection in conjunction with HR. First, it is important for line managers to keep a positive relationship with their employees, so that the employees will have higher level of job satisfaction, commitment and loyalty, which are associated with higher levels of performance or discretionary behavior. A line manager can also attend to the above-mentioned if he or she does performance appraisal. In addition, Line managers also play a strong part in structuring peoples actual experience of doing a job. Never the less, it is important that line managers see through the weaknesses of the work force and guide, train or coach them with proper directions where the employees can perform their work in a higher manner. In the role of a line manager, they always involve the employees in communication, especially when it comes to taking decisions or solving a problem in the line this also known as employee engagement. When working as a line manager and playing its role, the employees should feel easy and comfortable to discuss matters with their line managers. Therefore, the line managers should be opened to his or hers loyal work force. Last but not the least it is very important for a line manager to recognize the contribution of an employee to his work place. Line Management Responsibilities To have a good working relationship with the people who works under the line managers they will have to have some responsibilities that would make it effective. There are some factors that should be taken in to consideration such as, The Line Manager should make an effort to build a relationship with the workers under him that would be productive to the company. When the manager builds a good relationship with the workers, the workers will be happy to work and they can have discussions and gain more ideas through the workers knowledge as well. The team work with the workers will be very effective and this will increase the productivity of the company. The Line Manager should very careful when he conducts the performance of the employees since it might affect the employee positively or negatively. The Line Manager must provide more opportunities to the employees to have more discussions, more work, and responsibilities of the activities they do in order to get them more confident on a regular basis. This will help the employees know what the targets are and they will be kept remembered. This will help them stay focused and work in order to achieve the target. The focus on the performance and the work that the employee and manager do must be a two way process and both of them should be able to discuses and express their opinion about the performance and what are the factors that affect the final outcome. The Line Manager should set an example in a way that he would be the first one to reference by any employee when a problem arises or when a decision must be made. This also means gaining the respect that is needed by a manager must be earned by the Line manager. The Line Manager should provide regular updates on information and knowledge to the employees in order to keep them sharp. Some information and knowledge can be only accessed by the manager and it is up to the manager to ensure he updates on employees on their employees significant areas. The manager must make sure he has regular meeting and discussions in order to inform the employees on the development, problems and also remind them the goals and objectives of the company. So the employees know what is happening around the company and how they must act to overcome the issues. The Line Manager must identify the employees strength and weakness personally and must be able to make use of it for the benefit of the company. If an employee has a particular strength the manager must use it to the advantage of the company and if the employee has a weakness then the manager must help the employee to overcome this weakness. The Line Manager should appreciate the employees on their good work and as well as advice them on the inappropriate work. The manager must be able to send the message straight and make himself clear for the employees. The Line Manager should provide advice and support when it is needed by the employees. The Line Manager should support the fact that some employees need training and he must help them gain it. To carry out all these responsibilities efficiently the Line Manager needs to know all the employees job description and work specification. So when the Line Manager has a clear view on that the clarity will exist when making decision and as well as the Line Manager will know the limits of each employees. So being a Line Manager the managers responsibilities are mainly having a good relationship with the employees and understanding their needs and wants and leading them to do the activities that the manager requires them to do. Making the employees work in a way that they are satisfied with their work and letting them know that the company does care about them in order for them to work with their heart. Any manager must know how to get to any employee since not all the employees are the same and not everyone will be satisfied with the way the manager treats the employees. Hence, understanding the employees demands and understanding a way to gain their respect is very vital. Human resource planning Human resource planning is the term used to describe how companies ensure that their staff is the right staff to do the jobs. It is a systematic process of matching the interest, skills, and talents of individual community members with the long term goals and economic opportunities in the community. This process anticipates and maps out the consequences of business strategy on an organizations human resources. It is reflected in planning of skill and competence needs as well as total headcounts. For resourcing strategies to be implemented they must be translated into practical action. The strategic process can be organized logically. For these decisions to be taken, information must be obtained, consequences gauged, political soundings taken and preferences assessed. A clear Human resource plan includes benefits such as: Highlighting opportunities for strategic partnership that allow communities and other partners to share the benefits, risks and training costs. It provides for small successes that are encouraging and motivating for the community members and others that the program is on track. Making it easy to evaluate progress (especially client feedback) and to present funders, partners, and community members with effective information about the progress. The Human Resource Planning Process In order to compartmentalize the Human Resource Planning process, it will be broken down under five main general headings, under which each company will be analyzed against, so that the contrast in how they differ in planning processes can be identified Environmental Analysis The first step in the human resource planning process is to understand the context of human resource management. Human resource managers should understand both internal and external environments. Data on external environments includes the following: the general status of the economy, industry, technology and competition; labor market regulations and trends; unemployment rate; skills available; and the age and sex distribution of the labor force. Internal data required include short- and long-term organizational plans and strategies and the current status of the organizations human resources. In Standard Chartered, Human Resource Managers have surveyed the environmental arena and have undertaken activities that enhance their business performance now and for the long-term. They have also look for ways to ensure the economic development of the countries Standard Chartered Bank operates in, how to have a positive impact on the environment and society, as well as contributing to good governance. Human Resources have helped maintain an integrated view of how Standard Chartered does business that takes into account economic factors, the environment, community, and good governance. They have identified seven sustainability priorities by consulting key stakeholders such as government, academics, socially responsible investors, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and peers. They now deliver on this agenda by using the core skills and talents of their employees; providing quality financial services; and leveraging Standard Chartered Banks geographical footprint and international status to be a force for good. Standard Chartered Banks Human Resource Managers have thus analyzed its environment and have enhanced their labor and employment practices through collective bargaining agreements with the Local Unions and focused interaction with all labor regulatory authorities and agencies thus demonstrating the promotion of the principles of human and labor rights. The Bank also has a Diversity Inclusion (DI) Council. Designing the Management System A proper concise system is a vital necessity and needs to be in place, in order to handle the Human Resource process. The overall aim of this system is to manage human resources in line with organizational goals. The system is in charge of human resource plans, policies, procedures and best practices. For example, the system should track emerging human resource management trends, such as outsourcing certain non-core functions, adopting flexible work practices and the increased use of information technology, and, if appropriate, implement them. Standard Chartered Bank has signed a seven-year outsourcing contract, worth US$200 million, with Atos Origin for the management of its data services infrastructure in the Asia Pacific region. The agreement covers the banks data services in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. Atos Origin says it will aim to deliver improved performance levels and costs to the bank through the deployment of new technology and the standardization of processes. Commercial banks Human Resource system took a different approach and identified a more lucrative benefit can be made by outsourcing their existing pension scheme. Thus it resulted in the bank hiring Hewitt Outsourcing Services (India) Ltd, to convert its existing pension scheme, from a defined benefit plan to a defined contribution plan. As a result the group post-tax profits rose 39.46 percent to 2.37 billion rupees during the nine month period, compared with the same period last year. Analyzing Supply Organizations can hire personnel from internal and external sources. The skill inventories method is one of the techniques used to keep track of internal supply. Skill inventories are manual or computerized systems that keep records of employee experience, education and special skills. A forecast of the supply of employees projected to join the organization from outside sources, given current recruitment activities, is also necessary. For example, Standard Chartered, during the recession, Human Resource analyzing the surplus in employees, and having to cost cut to coincide with the new survival strategies of the company started to take attrition approach. Attrition is the process whereby the existing employees leave their jobs for various reasons or gets downsized. Those jobs will be kept vacant or unfilled. Attrition or hiring freezes or ban on employment can be implemented organization-wide or department-wise or job-wise if the Human Resource Manager forecasts a surplus manpower in the organization. But if the attrition rate is continuous and high then it is high time the concerned authorities in the organization have introspection and take remedial actions. High Attrition is a sign of bad reputation for the organization as a working place. Under the analyzing supply in terms of Human Resource planning process Commercial Bank operates on a different avenue. If future surplus is estimated, Commercial Bank has to plan for redeployment, redundancy etc. If surplus is estimated in some jobs/department, employees can be redeployed in other jobs/departments where the deficit of employees is estimated. Commercial Bank also makes plans for training or reorientation before redeployment of employees. Redeployment takes place in the form of transfers. If the deficit is not estimated in any job/department and surplus is estimated for the entire organization, Commercial Bank then, starts consultation with the trade unions and plans for redundancy or retrenchment. Reconciliation and Planning The final step in human resource planning is developing action plans based on the gathered data, analysis and available alternatives. The key issue is that the plans should be acceptable to both top management and employees. Plans should be prioritized and their key players and barriers to success identified. Some of these plans include employee utilization plan, appraisal plan, training and management development plan and human resource supply plan. A good example of this would be to go back to the times where recession hit, and Standard chartered had done extensive research on employee utilization plan, and more importantly the downsizing to keep them afloat. The HR identified key managers and put into action a redundancy plan which was as followed: Standard Chartered redundancy plan This plan covered type and number of employees, time of and place of retrenchment, type of help to be extended to retrenched employees in the form of compensation, help in getting new job, priority in filling future vacancies. Redeployment, Redundancy/Retrenchment Programs: 1. Outplacement: Outplacement programs also intended to provide career guidance for displaced employees. This programs covers retraining the prospective displaced employees who can be redeployed elsewhere in the organization, helping in resume writing, interview techniques, job searching. 2. Layoffs: Layoffs can be temporary or permanent. Temporary layoffs are due to the slackness in business, machinery breakage, power failure etc. Workers are called back as soon as work resumes to the normal position. Permanent layoff is due to liquidation of the company. Proper human resource planning leaving the workforce at proper level can help to reduce this effect. 3. Leave of Absence without Pay: This technique helps SC to cut the labor cost and the employee to pursue his self interests. This technique also helps the company to plan for eliminating the unnecessary job in a phased manner. This concept serves or a productive method to help employees prepare for future changes. Work Sharing: Some areas of SC offer employees the opportunity to share jobs or two employees working one-half time each. This technique solves the problem of retrenchment in the short run. This is in vogue in advanced countries but not acceptable to workers unions especially within the Asian region. Reduced Working Hours: Under this technique, each worker, works less hours, and receives less pay, so that two jobs are saved. Again this is not prevalent in the Asian region and other developing countries. Voluntary/ Early Retirement: Another issue is early retirement. SC has taken a page from the Government of India who introduced Voluntary Retirement Scheme under the caption Golden Handshake in order to solve the problem of overstaffing in Public sector. This technique solves the problem of excessive supply of future inventory over the demand for the human resources. In short it is popularly called as VRS.
